During my photography trip in Cartagena Colombia I passed by a wedding where all the bridesmaids were dressed in white. Normally these outfits have many busy patterns and are breaming with colour and refer to the African roots that many Latin American countries like Colombia but also Bonaire have.
This mural was made a a recently finished appartmentblock in Antriol, a place where many of the local people live here on this tropical island. All day they would drive past and honk their horns or take some time out of their day to interact. To see the smiles on their faces was really the biggest compliment to receive.
Last year I was here on the Island to paint for the @streetcolorsbonaire project and the ‘Leilana’ mural won best of feb 2021 and 3rd best wall worldwide by @streetartcities. The amazing part of that was that almost the whole island of 22.000 inhabitants voted for that wall and it brought the community and gap closer of the Island that has some noticable racial issue till date due to the Dutch colonial history.
