Project for Blank Wall Assassins

For this project I have based my sketch on a photo I took of this little girl at sunset in Don-Det Laos. This image is a reminder for me of that world trip and a strong example of the beauty of humanity. Let’s celebrate our diversity and remind our selves we are all equal and all from this earth. To have the opportunity to paint her in the Carlisle community and add to the cross cultural experience of this town makes me very happy. I imagine the Laos population is sparse here and I hope this piece will raise questions and start conversations.

A massive thanks goes out Blank wall assassins for being the perfect host and setting this whole project up. This is my second wall for the street art trail including great artists like Ben Eine, Smug Tabby This. Also I would like to thank Steven Dunn and U-student for making this all possible.

De Laat started painting murals and canvases, often based on his own photographs of the people he met during his travels. He exaggerates the natural lines in their faces, and fills the spaces that appear between those swirling lines with swaths of vivid color. The linework and color palette he applies in that way, are a means of translating his memories of Latin America to visual imagery. The food, the architecture, the clothes, and particularly his respect for the culture of indigenous peoples; it’s all in there, as de Laat transitions it over to enliven drab Western concrete.
